Female Wrestler Criticizes WWE Executive Over Unfair Pay
WWE Diva A.J. Lee has lashed out at WWE executive Stephanie McMahon on Twitter over the unfair pay and screen time given to female wrestlers.
1. This is A.J. Lee. She’s a WWE Diva, the name given to female wrestlers in WWE.
She’s a three-time WWE Divas Champion and one of the most popular female wrestlers in the roster today. She’s currently out of action, recovering from neck-related injuries.
2. On Tuesday, Lee retweeted a tweet by WWE chief brand officer and on-air personality Stephanie McMahon, where she thanked Patricia Arquette over her Oscar speech advocating for wage equality.
RT @StephMcMahon: Thank You @PattyArquette for having the courage to fight for #WomensRights on such a grand platform. #UseYourVoice
— WWEAJLee (@A.J.)
3. Afterwards, Lee continued to tweet about the success of female wrestlers within WWE.
@StephMcMahon Your female wrestlers have record selling merchandise & have starred in the highest rated segment of the show several times,
— WWEAJLee (@A.J.)
4. And then she tweeted about female wrestlers receiving “a fraction of the wages & screen time of the majority of the male roster.”
@StephMcMahon And yet they receive a fraction of the wages & screen time of the majority of the male roster. #UseYourVoice
— WWEAJLee (@A.J.)
5. Fans are currently supporting Lee’s series of tweets:
@WWEAJLee I am so PROUD of you for not being afraid to stand up for equal rights! Divas deserve & have earnt right for equal pay & airtime!

— baechaeljackson (@moony.)
12. The tweets come after WWE was heavily criticized by fans over the fact that female wrestlers are not being given enough screen time on WWE’s flagship program Monday Night Raw.
A match between WWE Divas Paige, Emma, and The Bella Twins lasted a mere 30 seconds. Monday Night Raw is a three-hour show.
